La recette d’une bonne Chichala


 

Quel plaisir de recevoir un vieil ami ! L’occasion de sortir une bouteille (oui, Zado est un Pandawa), de réchauffer les c?urs et de br?ler les gosiers… Touche pas Jojo, la Chichala, c’est pas pour toi ! Non, on n’en trouve pas sur tous les marchés, car sa conception demande d’être un grand, un très grand aventurier. Je vais te raconter ?a… Demain à 10 h 30 sur France 3 !

Point sur l'évolution des serveurs (et meilleurs v?ux)



 

Bonjour à tous,
Pour commencer cette année, j'aimerais vous faire un point sur l'évolution des serveurs de DOFUS. Malgré l’intégration de nombreuses optimisations du code serveur, de l’amélioration de l’architecture réseau et de la gestion des serveurs de connexion multiples, l’architecture matérielle des serveurs de jeu DOFUS n’a elle pas subie de modifications majeures depuis la sortie de la version 2.0. Pendant ce temps, de nombreuses fonctionnalités ont été ajoutées au jeu, consommant progressivement de plus en plus de ressources processeur et de mémoire.

Par exemple, lors de la MAJ 2.6, vous vous souvenez certainement de quelques problèmes de 'lags' liés à des modifications profondes de l'architecture du serveur, que nous avons mis quelques semaines à régler. acheter des kamas

Lors de cette dernière MAJ 2.9 début décembre, nous avons implanté notamment le système de succès, qui était un défi technique conséquent. Afin d'éviter les problèmes de ressources processeur, nous avons pris le parti de mettre en place une architecture limitant au mieux les co?ts processeur dans les successions de vérifications de validation des succès (compteurs et déclencheurs, sur de très nombreuses actions possibles en jeu par le joueur).

Cependant cette architecture choisie pour minimiser les risques de lags, a un effet inverse sur la mémoire. En effet, généralement, dans le développement d'applications, soit on réduit la consommation de mémoire en demandant plus de calculs (donc de ressources processeur), soit on fait l'inverse. L'art subtil de l'optimisation nous demande donc de trouver le bon compromis entre les 2. acheter des kamas sur dofus

La 2.9 sortie initialement le 11 décembre a rencontré de sérieux problèmes de mémoire, entre le 11 et le 20 décembre nous avons d? effectuer des maintenances supplémentaires afin d'apporter des modifications et optimisations, pour stabiliser et limiter la consommation mémoire des serveurs. Le passage en béta de la version, les semaines précédant la sortie, ne nous ont hélas pas suffit à isoler tous les problèmes. Ceci est d? à la fréquentation plus faible du serveur béta par rapport à un serveur 'normal', et également au comportement de jeu différent des joueurs sur ce serveur : certaines actions ne sont pas faites de fa?on aussi fréquente que sur les 'vrais' serveurs.

Si la situation est globalement plus stable depuis, nous savons que nous avons atteint une sorte de 'limite' (par exemple, la charge mémoire liée à un personnage connecté, depuis le système de succès, a doublé en taille !). Nous sommes conscients que l'année 2013 verra de nouvelles fonctionnalités et de nouveaux défis techniques, requérant encore de nouvelles ressources processeur et mémoire. C'est pourquoi depuis quelques mois nous migrons progressivement les serveurs DOFUS vers de nouvelles machines plus performantes, afin de nous donner de nouvelles perspectives.

Les durées des maintenances, notamment, sont également liées aux performances des serveurs.

Notre planning prévisionnel nous permet de prévoir que d'ici fin mars, si tout se passe comme prévu, l'ensemble des serveurs DOFUS (bases de données, serveurs de jeu, ...) sera migré sur les nouvelles machines, apportant donc un meilleur confort de jeu.

Entre les serveurs de l'ancienne plateforme et les prochains serveurs, nous doublons la mémoire vive, et le nombre de coeurs (processeurs) est triplé.

Ces modifications nous permettent d'envisager des chantiers conséquents pour DOFUS :

multiplier et étoffer les contenus existants (succès, zones de jeu...)
nous donner la possibilité d'envisager des fonctionnalités plus complexes et riches requérant des ressources importantes c?té serveur

Afin d'assurer de bonnes conditions de jeu, certains des serveurs, qui n'ont pas été migrés pour le moment, ont actuellement une limite d'accès réduite pour les non-abonnés, afin que les joueurs abonnés puissent trouver le confort de jeu optimal. Ces limites seront rehaussées dès que le serveur sera transféré, dans les prochaines semaines.

Depuis la sortie de la 2.0, nous avons travaillé de fa?on constante sur l'amélioration des performances des serveurs (optimisations, ...). Ainsi, nous avons pu augmenter régulièrement les limites de connectés par serveur, ce qui explique que nous pouvons accueillir plus de joueurs qu'avant sans pour autant avoir besoin de créer de nouveaux serveurs.

Nous allons nous donner à fond encore cette année pour faire de DOFUS un jeu plus riche, plus varié, plus divertissant, et en visant à limiter les problèmes techniques en anticipant au mieux les risques.

The story is weak

Many journalists, including Massively's, have already criticized the poor storytelling in GW2. Part of this is that people have stated (correctly) that the voice acting ranges from acceptable to bad; I'm not sure of exactly why, since there's top-shelf talent in the cast, especially among Destiny's Edge. Kari Wahlgren does a pretty good job as Caithe, but Troy Baker comes off as a pastiche of previous roles, and Steve Blum just sounds like he's growling his way through Rytlock without a great deal of effort. And once you move past the main five NPCs, things get worse, despite the fact that there are still several other excellent actors and actresses in the lot.

But let's leave that to one side; I can assume that the actors weren't given good direction or pacing. There are games that do voice well and games that don't. A more fundamental problem is the story itself.

The first problem is that the emotional arc of your character concludes after the second arc is finished. From that point onward you are, essentially, a tagalong; the story is affecting other people, and you're mostly just along for the ride. A good part of this is due to the segmented nature of the game's quests, as every 10 levels or so you kick over to another arc, treating a story as if it's a sequence of blocks stuck together instead of an evolving whole. My human Thief joined the Order of Whispers. First order of business? Protect a human noblewoman to keep Kryta in the hands of the royalty. This meant I got a crash course on Krytan politics and history, despite the fact that I had just finished doing a whole chunk of work for the Queen and had been right there investigating a conspiracy that petered out halfway through. But that was another arc, so nothing that happened then counted, and I had to pretend as if I'd never heard of these people or places before.

Of course, by that point I already had stopped having a say in the storyline. The story gets suborned by the antics of Destiny's Edge and whatever pet NPC is your current companion, while none of the NPCs you interacted with before is ever seen again. It's hard to feel much emotional impact when characters die or leave because they're being treated as setpieces rather than actual individuals with wants or desires. Your friends from the start of the game aren't relevant later on, not even as a reminder of where you come from.

The actual plot that the game wants to tell -- Destiny's Edge reforming against the background of fighting Zhaitan -- is handled competently but without any flair. Since all of these characters are NPCs, we don't get any context or emotional insight into these various characters. They're stereotypes without any depth as presented. The game doesn't give you a chance to understand why Rytlock and Logan dislike each other; they just do. Nor do we see emotional growth take place that brings them back together. Instead, the plot mashes them back into a single group because the climax is coming up.

And the player character is reduced to playing step-and-fetch-it alongside better-known heroes. Not since Britney's Dance Beat has a game so succeeded in letting a player feel as if his or her best efforts are enough to earn the right of being second fiddle.   cheap Wars 2 gold

It's possible that I'm being too hard on the story's content, but that just leads to pointing out that what the story is supposed to do -- guide the player to level-appropriate zones -- is also not well-handled. Nor is the story compelling enough to keep a player following along, which is a cardinal sin in what should be driving you forward. It's a great idea that doesn't pan out in execution; whether that's because the execution is bad or the idea itself is a poor one is left as an exercise for the reader.

MOBA for Diablo 3 PvP?

    Following Jay’s developer update on the state of PvP, Team Death match has been removed and they are “going back to the drawing board” for a replacement for Team Death match.

    Now I know not everyone here on Diablo: Inc Gamers plays WoW but I thought the latest data mining from the WoW 5.2 update, which has just gone live on the PTRs was interesting as it revealed a new Battleground called ”Defense of the Alehouse” which is obviously a play on the title DOTA. The WoW community is now excited at the prospect of a future DOTA/MOBA style Battleground based on the data mined video of the map.

    For those who have no idea what MOBA is, it stands for Multi player Online Battle Arena which usually involves two teams of heroes with a player controlling a single character to take out the opposing team’s base/structures. It’s sort of like playing an RTS with no building but there is character levelling and skill progression.

    Could the Diablo 3 and WoW teams be bashing heads together and they are now experimenting with new PvP modes in WoW, and possibly Diablo 3? The idea of MOBA style PvP may just work in Diablo 3 but it could take some time for the development team to put together.
